Naples and Sorrento - Feb. 24, 2022

Late February, we decided we would head South for some sun and warm weather. We flew to Naples, visited Ercolano (Herculean), and then spent three nights in Sorrento. It was a true adventure in that we experienced a hail/snow storm while in Sorrento! It was really exciting and dramatic but I could have used a warmer jacket. First I will post photo’s from Ercolano - an ancient city 5 miles from Naples, destroyed by eruption of Mount Vesuvius along with Pompeii. Excavations occurred mid 18th century. We visited Pompeii about 15 years ago so I was eager to see this city too. I took many photo’s - it was amazing. Thanks to Covid and being February, there were hardly any other visitors so I was able to get some fun shots.

I know Naples has a reputation for being “tough” and “dirty” but I look at it as being exposed and raw. I love the vibe and feel very at home. My grandparents are from Campania so maybe I am just channeling my roots. Here are a few photo’s:

We drove to the coastal town of Sorrento which is perched up on cliffs overlooking the bay of Naples. Within 20 minutes of arriving, a massive storm rolled in over the bay and gave a dramatic show with wind, hail and snow!! So much for heading south to get some sun and warmth - LOL! But, it was worth it for sure and the clouds passed and the sun smiled upon the coast the rest of our stay.
